Reduced and amended service between London Euston and Watford Junction / Milton Keynes Central from Friday 18 to Monday 21 April
Engineering Work Details
18 April 2025Engineering work is taking place between London Euston and Watford Junction / Milton Keynes Central / Northampton, closing various lines.
Avanti West Coast:
Friday:
Trains to / from London Euston will run to a reduced and amended timetable all day.
Saturday to Monday:
No Avanti West Coast trains will run between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central.
A reduced service of one train per hour will run between:
- Milton Keynes Central and Manchester Piccadilly (two trains per hour on Sunday)
- Milton Keynes Central and Liverpool Lime Street (on Saturday and Monday only)
- Milton Keynes Central and Carlisle
- Rugby and Birmingham New Street / Wolverhampton
Trains that usually run between London Euston and Holyhead will instead run between Crewe and Holyhead only.
Replacement Buses
A joint replacement bus plan will be in place, provided by Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway, buses will run between Bedford and Milton Keynes Central. You should use East Midlands Railway / Thameslink trains between London St Pancras International and Bedford to connect to / from buses at Bedford.
Caledonian Sleeper:
Due to the engineering work, Caledonian Sleeper services will not run to / from London Euston and will instead be diverted to run to / from London Kings Cross.
As a result, the following services will be affected:
Sunday:
The 20:20 London Euston to Inverness / Fort William service will start from London Kings Cross at 21:15 and will not call at Crewe or Preston.
The 20:25 Inverness / 19:00 Fort William to London Euston service will not call at Preston or Crewe, and will terminate at London Kings Cross at 07:40.
The 21:30 London Euston to Edinburgh / Glasgow Central service will start from London Kings Cross at 22:45 and will not call at Watford Junction or Carlisle.
The 21:45 Glasgow Central / 23:25 Edinburgh to London Euston service will depart from Glasgow Central at 22:00 will not call at Motherwell, Carstairs, Carlisle, or Watford Junction, and will terminate at London Kings Cross at 06:10.
Monday:
The 20:45 Inverness / 19:50 Fort William / 20:26 Aberdeen to London Euston service will not call at Preston or Crewe, and has been retimed to terminate at London Euston at 08:45.
The 21:15 London Euston to Inverness / Fort William / Aberdeen service will start from London Kings Cross at 21:40, and will not call at Crewe or Preston.
The 23:40 Glasgow Central / Edinburgh to London Euston service will will run to an amended timetable, and will depart from Glasgow Central at 21:45, Motherwell at 22:02, Carstairs at 22:23, Edinburgh at 23:25, and will not call at Carlisle or Watford Junction.
The 23:45 London Euston to Glasgow Central / Edinburgh service will start from London Kings Cross at 23:00 and will not call at Watford Junction or Carlisle. This service will arrive at Carstairs at 06:28.
London Northwestern Railway:
Friday:
Until approximately 06:45, no trains will run between London Euston and Watford Junction.
Trains between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central / Northampton will not call at Bushey.
You should use London Overground trains between London Euston and Bushey.
Trains between London Euston and Crewe will run between Milton Keynes Central and Crewe only.
Saturday and Sunday:
No trains will run between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central / Northampton.
Replacement bus services will run between:
- Potters Bar / Watford Junction and Milton Keynes Central (not calling at Cheddington)
- Milton Keynes Central and Northampton
- Bedford and Milton Keynes Central
- Leighton Buzzard and Cheddington (shuttle bus)
You should use Thameslink trains between London Kings Cross and Potters Bar to connect to bus services at Potters Bar, and East Midland Railway / Thameslink trains between London St Pancras International and Bedford to connect to / from bus services at Bedford.
Monday:
No trains will run between London Euston and Watford Junction. From 08:00, a reduced and amended timetable will run between Watford Junction and Milton Keynes Central.
Replacement bus services will run between:
- Potters Bar and Watford Junction (from 08:00) / Milton Keynes Central (until 08:00)
- Milton Keynes Central and Northampton
- Bedford and Milton Keynes Central
You should use East Midland Railway / Thameslink trains between London St Pancras International and Bedford to connect to / from bus services at Bedford.
London Overground:
Lioness line
Saturday to Monday
There will be no train service between London Euston and Watford Junction.
You are advised to use London Buses or London Underground services between Queens Park and Euston or via any reasonable route.
Southern:
Friday
No Southern trains will run between Shepherds Bush and Watford Junction.
Please use alternative London Overground trains between Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction. Or alternatively, Southern trains between Clapham Junction and London Victoria, London Underground between London Victoria and London Euston.
National Rail ticket acceptance will be in place:
Euston – Watford Junction (London Northwestern Railway)
Paper ticket acceptance will be in place on TfL Underground / Overground trains:
Victoria – Euston (Victoria Line)
Victoria – Shepherds Bush (Circle and Central Line)
Victoria – West Brompton (District Line)
Oxford Circus – Harrow & Wealdstone (Bakerloo Line)
Clapham Junction – Willesden Junction (Mildmay Line)
Euston – Watford Junction (Lioness Line)
Journey times will be increased on the alternative route via central London and Euston.
Saturday to Monday
No Southern trains will run between Shepherds Bush and Watford Junction.
Please use alternative London Overground trains between Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction.
Or alternatively, Southern trains between Clapham Junction and London Victoria, London Underground between London Victoria and London Euston.
Please note there is no direct service between London Euston and Watford Junction. Paper tickets will be accepted on London Buses or London Underground services between Queens Park and Euston or via any reasonable route.
