Our Trains
Our Route
We operate five routes Northbound and Southbound six nights a week. Our Highlander route runs between London and Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William. Our Lowlander route runs between London, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Our Fleet
We operate a fleet of seventy-five Mk5 coaches manufactured by CAF with four coach types. The fleet entered active service in 2019.
Club Car
We operate eleven Club Cars with seating for up to thirty diners. The coach is equipped with a galley for food service and has seven dining booths, including a specific space for wheelchair users. The coach is also equipped with a row of seven swivelling stools with tables.
Seated Coach
We operate eleven seated coaches with seating for up to thirty guests in a two and one formation with two additional wheelchair spaces. The seats offer a ten degree recline, USB and UK standard plug sockets, a reading light, an adjustable headrest, footrest and a fold down table. Each seat has its own secure storage locker above the seat.
The seated coach is equipped with a single PRM accessible shared toilet.
Sleeper Coach
We operate forty sleeper coaches. Each sleeper coach is equipped with:
- Six Club En-Suite rooms fitted with twin bunk beds, a private en-suite toilet and shower
- Four Classic rooms fitted with twin bunk beds
- One toilet
PRM Accessible coach
We operate twelve PRM accessible coaches. Each PRM coach is equipped with:
- One Accessible Double room fitted with a double bed
- One Accessible Twin room fitted with twin bunk beds
- Two fully accessible PRM toilets, These are directly next door to the accessible rooms
- Two Classic rooms fitted with twin bunk beds
- Two Caledonian Double En-Suite rooms fitted with a double bed, a private en-suite toilet and shower
Our Formations
We have two full train formations of sixteen coaches for our Highlander and Lowlander Routes.
Our northbound services leave London in a full formation and split to go to their respective destinations. Our Southbound services leave their origin stations and join together to create our full formations.
Highlander formation
Typically our Northbound formations leave London with sixteen coaches. When the service reaches Edinburgh the service splits into three portions, one for Aberdeen, Fort William and Inverness.
- Edinburgh – Aberdeen – Typically 4-6 coaches
- Edinburgh – Fort William – Typically 4-6 coaches
- Edinburgh – Inverness - Typically 7-8 coaches
The Southbound formation operates the same in reverse.
The number of coaches on each portion varies due to demand at different times of year.
Lowlander formation
The Northbound Lowlander formation leaves London with sixteen coaches. When the service reaches Carstairs the service splits into two portions, one for Edinburgh and one for Glasgow
- Carstairs – Edinburgh – Typically 7-8 coaches
- Carstairs – Glasgow – Typically7-8 coaches
The Southbound formation operates the same way in reverse.
